Hidden inside code of the latest OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 beta are references to products dubbed “Magic Mouse 2”, “Magic Trackpad 2”, and “Magic Keyboard”. We’ve confirmed the references to new Apple peripherals are not present on the current OS X release, version 10.11.0, and first appear in OS X 10.11.1, currently in beta.
These references are found just before Apple plans to release a 4K 21.5 inch iMac next week. This information may be sufficient enough that we can assume Apple will update their Mac accessories alongside their smaller iMac which is getting a 4096 x 2304 display.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen hints about new Mac accessories. Back in August, leaked FCC patents referenced a new “Magic Mouse 2” and an updated wireless keyboard.
While there isn’t much in terms of how the updated products might differ in design or features from past generations, some are speculating that Apple could add a Force Touch-like experience to its Magic Mouse and Trackpad, allowing it to bring the pressure-sensitive touch technology from the Apple Watch, MacBook trackpads, and iPhone 6S phones to more Mac computers. They are also expected to feature Bluetooth 4.2, a new version of Bluetooth 4.0 which is faster, stronger, and more secure.
